What is Council?

GSA-UW Council determines the official positions of the GSA as they relate to academic and political representation of UWaterloo graduate students. Council’s operations are regulated by GSA By-Law 7.

The membership of Council is as follows:

  • Chair of Council, appointed by Council
  • One representative from each department and unit program
  • Non-voting At-large councillors appointed by Council
  • GSA Officers
  • GSA Directors

What is a councillor?

Councillors are appointed graduate students that connect with, represent and speak on behalf of their respective graduate department or unit at Council meetings. Councillors attend monthly GSA Council meetings, and vote on social and political actions brought forth to the committee.

Graduate Student Issues & Concerns

The goal of the GSA-UW is to work with UW administration and faculty to improve the graduate student experience. Through surveys and engagement with our graduate student Council, the following issues have been identified as concerns within the graduate student community.
