Module 6: Blue Zone Tools 2: Application – Case Study
This module focuses on preparing a context statement in order to promote understanding on all sides of a difficult conversation. Context statements help to clarify motives for having a conversation, prevent distractions, seek understanding, and create opportunities to repair relationships. This module identifies possible barriers to preventative conversations, and also discusses the foundations of positive relationships to better understand how to demonstrate care in a difficult conversation. Communicating shared goals and potential costs is an effective way to frame a context statement. Many of the services offered by the Conflict Management and Human Rights Office are designed to help students address barriers and better prepare for difficult conversations. Review the handout linked below for additional case study examples.
