Ruby Aigbotsua

Director & Deputy Chair

My name is Ruby Aigbotsua and I am a master’s student in the Department of Public health and Health Systems. I am running for the Board of Directors because I see the position to be part of a team that attempts to create a better place for graduate students.

I have experience as the President of my departmental student association (Public and allied health student association) during my undergraduate days back in my home country. I also represented my class as the Course representative for 3 years during my program, I advocated for my classmates and students of the department on a few academic and policy committees. A vote for me is a chance to make a difference.

Territorial Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that we work on the traditional territory of ‎ the Attawandaron (Neutral), Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. The University of Waterloo is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land promised to the Six Nations that includes ten kilometers on each side of the Grand River. We acknowledge that we work on these territories as beneficiaries of settler colonialism. We also acknowledge that members of our UWaterloo community live on Indigenous territories around the world.

This statement is only a small step in the process of reconciliation. Decolonization requires systemic change. The GSA-UW is committed to this effort.
