Yashesh Dasari

Hey everyone! I’m Yashesh, an MASc student in Engineering (MME), and I’m running to represent you as a GSA-UW Board of Director. Outside school, I enjoy leadership and volunteering roles. I am a core member of the UWFM team, and a volunteer for The Voice of Stray Dogs and Michigan FC (NPOs). During my undergraduate studies, I was the president of an international student chapter and a marketing coordinator for cultural events.

Being an international student can be challenging, and I’ve been through most of it. Also, I started as an MEng student before accepting my current MASc position, therefore, experiencing both sides of the master’s programs.

As your representative, I intend to leverage my experience and network to ensure your needs are addressed during our decision-making process: decisions that directly impact student life. I also hope to promote a sense of belongingness among graduate students by taking initiatives to create a stronger community.

Territorial Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that we work on the traditional territory of ‎ the Attawandaron (Neutral), Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. The University of Waterloo is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land promised to the Six Nations that includes ten kilometers on each side of the Grand River. We acknowledge that we work on these territories as beneficiaries of settler colonialism. We also acknowledge that members of our UWaterloo community live on Indigenous territories around the world.

This statement is only a small step in the process of reconciliation. Decolonization requires systemic change. The GSA-UW is committed to this effort.
