GSA COVID-19 Update: Visit News for the latest information regarding our services.

Amir Hosein Sadeghi Isfahani

I am a PhD candidate in physics, researching the chromosome organization in bacterial cells. Back in Iran, I accumulated practical knowledge in executive and policy-making positions in academia and industry. Since I began my program, I have voluntarily co-run various activities for graduate students and represented the GSA on different committees on the campus.

My vision as a GSA director is to implement policies and services that improve the quality of life for us, enhance the research mentorship, empower us with transferable skills, and ensure transparency in the GSA and different sectors of the university. I will collaborate with our colleagues at the GSA to accommodate the unprecedented changes brought about by Covid-19 and seize the opportunities opened up by it. To achieve the visions, I will rely on the experiences and skills of my fellows on the campus, using online platforms. A vote for me is a vote for thoughtful advocacy for you!

Territorial Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that we work on the traditional territory of ‎ the Attawandaron (Neutral), Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. The University of Waterloo is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land promised to the Six Nations that includes ten kilometers on each side of the Grand River. We acknowledge that we work on these territories as beneficiaries of settler colonialism. We also acknowledge that members of our UWaterloo community live on Indigenous territories around the world.

This statement is only a small step in the process of reconciliation. Decolonization requires systemic change. The GSA-UW is committed to this effort.
